Dr. Yuan-chun Ma is currently the Chief Scientific Officer and Chairman of the Board of Dr. Ma’s Laboratories Inc. He is the founder and former President/ CEO of Canadian Phytopharmaceuticals Corp. (CPC) as well as Professor at the Hubei University of Chinese Medicine in China . Dr. Ma has profound knowledge and expertise in both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and natural health products.

Background

Dr. Ma received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the School of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences at the University of Portsmouth in England.

Prior to CPC, which Dr. Ma founded in 1996, he was engaged in the research and development of natural pharmaceutical products at universities, various other academic institutes, and many related enterprises in Asia, Europe, and North America since 1978. He is also the author of over 100 research and scientific publications. Dr. Ma has participated in the research and development on the standardization of botanical products for the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada and participated in the Ginseng Evaluation Program of the American botanical Council (ABC). Dr. Ma is on the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) Expert Review Panel, and is the author of the chemistry and quality control section of the North American Ginseng Monograph for the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia. He is a member of the ABC-AHP-NCNPR Botanical Adulterants Program Industry Laboratory Expert Committee and a member of the Standards Council of Canada’s Mirror Committee. Board Member of Natural Health Product Research Society of Canada (NHPRS). Vice Chairman of the 2nd Board of Specialty Committee of TCM Pharmaceutical Analysis of World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.

Achievements

Dr. Ma has put into practice the theoretical research of academics and integrated their concepts into a full-scale industrial setting. Dr. Ma and his research team have established HPLC profiles for a large variety of North American and Chinese herbs and multi-ingredient products such as Ginkgo biloba ,North American Ginseng, Rhodiola，Echinacea, and Golden Seal. Much like fingerprints, these profiles are used to determine identity, potency, and potential adulteration in the raw material supply chain and finished product testing. The above mentioned research and development of Ginkgo biloba, Rhodiola rosea, Panax notoginseng and Ganoderma lucidum has been used in preparation of monographs and standard reference extracts for United States Pharmacopoeia and these results have been adopted as industry standards
